The Drama Club
This spring, I’m directing my senior capstone short film: The Drama Club. It’s about the chaos that ensues when a high school health teacher has to direct the school musical after the drama teacher passes away. Having no theater experience, he’s completely over his head, and at the mercy of the over-zealous drama kids.
Having spent years of my childhood performing in theater, in both community and professional spaces, writing this film was a tribute in itself. Rehearsal rooms like the one in this film were instrumental in my development as an artist. Theatre allowed me to gain practical & social skills, teamwork experience, and most importantly, confidence in myself. While you might not have been a “theatre kid” like me, I don’t doubt that you had an activity, a sport, or an interest that you loved. Whatever that passion was, I hope this film takes you back in time, so you can remember it and experience that excitement again.
