What Baking Can Do

While working at The Muny in summer 2024, myself and fellow marketing intern, Emma, were given the task of creating a preshow event to host during the run of the show Waitress. Keeping in mind the general aesthetic and themes of the musical, we came up with What Baking Can Do, an event which featured 5 local women-owned bakeries, who provided samples of their most popular products. Additionally, we invited a local nonprofit, Lydia’s House, that specializes in providing transitional housing to women and children who are victims of domestic violence to table and talk about domestic safety. Prior to the run of the show, Emma and I designed pie lapel pins that were sold at our merch and concession stands. Proceeds from those pins were used to buy donations for the nonprofit.

The event garnered 300+ attendees, and we received great feedback from all involved. The pie pin sales raised over $800 for the nonprofit, and were shared on Instagram by actors in the show, who have followings of 170,000+.

Our project was collaborative, with Emma taking on much of the coordination with vendors, while I took on the design for the event, creating a custom sign for each table, advertising each product.
